Happy 43rd Birthday, Tina Fey!

My next complaint:

kirkir:

That’s so Raven and Sabrina The Teenage Witch should be on Netflix.

But I guess I’ll check Amazon. I wouldn’t mind owning either of those.

I was joking more or less in my post while expressing my financial frustrations over school. However, the last comment on it bothered me a bit. Looking at it as a serious suggestion, is it really a bad idea to give some kind of scholarship to people who choose to attend college? And is it really comparable to expecting extra credit for turning in homework on time?

I say no because our country (US) and most jobs; or at least ‘higher’ paying jobs, ask for a college education. And the requirement for some kind of degree above a bachelors is becoming more prevalent. But school is expensive and exhausting. The majority of those who are lucky enough to go to college struggle financially (and mentally might I add) for years. We’re asked of these requirements in order to do the things we want to do, make decent money, and  create a better future (for everyone) yet those requirements are made extremely difficult and stressful with financial burden. It would be nice for everyone who chooses to go to college to get some kind of scholarship or compensation, even if it’s just $500 a semester. College students should be rewarded for their effort and maybe it would help push those who are doing average when they could do better or those who find themselves second guessing their decision to attend college or those who feel completely hopeless about it. I consider it a selfless act to a certain extent. College students deserve some compensation. They’re the future, they’re bettering the world, they’re giving their time, body, energy, and mental stability. We need them.

I think it’s awful that the idea of college being made cheaper or free for those who want to or need to further their education has become so ludicrous that it could be compared to a student expecting extra credit for turning homework in on time. I think we could all think more highly of people and education.
